Inspired by the fluidity and grace of figure skating, Axel Chair captures the passion and energy of movement, celebrating elegance and vitality. Named after the Axel jump, a forward leap in figure skating. Its intertwining forms mirror the sweeping arcs and dynamic twists of a skater gliding across the ice, freezing a moment of rhythmic flow.
Prototyping process
Being new to furniture design and not having much experience with sketching, I decided to start with materials I felt comfortable with—things I could connect with physically. I didn’t approach it as designing a chair but instead let the form come together naturally. Over time, it grew into something more expressive and full of character.
