The Axel Chair explores this idea, drawing inspiration from the fluidity and grace of figure skating. Its design captures the sweeping arcs and dynamic twists of a skater mid-leap, freezing a moment of rhythmic flow.
As it sits within a space, the chair twists and enlivens its surroundings, quietly balancing dynamism and stillness.
Creating process
Being new to furniture design and not having much experience with sketching, I decided to start with materials I felt comfortable with—things I could connect with physically. I didn’t approach it as designing a chair but instead let the form come together naturally. Over time, it grew into something more expressive.
